Initiatives on Mesh are projects that you'd be working on as part of your Key Results (KRs) which are linked to the company's larger Objectives. Initiatives could be anything that helps you achieve your KR.
For example,
If one of your company's Objectives is to increase revenue and your KR, as part of the marketing team is to support the launch of new products, then one Initiative for you could be to prepare the social media strategy for a particular product launch.
Let’s look at the steps for creating Initiatives on Mesh.
Step 1: On the Mesh dashboard, go to “Mesh List" and toggle to Initiatives. Then, click on the "+" icon at the top.
Step 2: This will open a small dialog box. This is where you need to add details about the Initiative you'd be working on.
Step 3: Further, you can add a deadline for the Initiative, link to an Objective, link it to a team pod as well as modify owners/ collaborators. Hit enter to publish it.
Once an Initiative is published, it will instantly appear on the Mesh List as well as under the Initiatives panel.
Updating an Initiative
For updating the Initiatives, click on one from the Mesh List/ Initiatives panel, which will open a right-sided window. Now, this is divided into 3 sections,
Details
Following are the things you can change/ update from here regarding an Initiative,
- Status
- Due date
- Owners/ collaborators
- Objective
- Parent Goal
- Description
- Visibility
And you can also add a repeating frequency for the said Initiative.
Tasks
Tasks are smaller milestones that you can add to your Initiatives that act like a checkpoint in order to help you accomplish your Initiatives.
Adding tasks is a very simple process. Just click on the "Add Task" blue button as shown above, fill in the task description, add owners/ collaborators, define a deadline and that's it.
Comments
As you can see, the comments section gets populated either when an update is marked for the said Initiative or when any of the Initiative owner, collaborator (if added) or the owner's manager adds a comment/ praise on the Initiative from the box provided at the bottom. This works similar to the sharing box in the social feed.
The Initiative Panel
The Initiative Panel is where you can view team-wise Initiatives at a single place and easily conduct check-ins with your larger team, with the information visible here.
The entire explanation regarding the individual components of the panel as well as doing check-ins can be read in the documentation for check-ins via the Goals panel.
